Ode to the Sun

I believe in the sun.

It suspends us in equilibrium against the harsh void of space,

and I can feel its devotion and its warmth.

More real to me than any God, it is observable and I am grateful for its indispensable presence, because there is nothing more bewildering than this chance to be present.

Whether you believe in that chance, whether it was planned or coincidental does not matter, the sun is a reminder of a reserve of possibility.

In an endless dance of shadow and light, it symbolizes our deepest fears and guides our highest hopes.

It summons us out of the recesses of sleep only to curtail itself to make room for the inner-revolutions of our dreams.

I believe those dreams are as intrinsic to our consciousness as to each celestial body and the varieties of intelligence they bring to all manner of creatures in all manner of vessels.

I believe that despite these bodily constraints, there is space to exercise freedom through conscious and deliberate attention.

In the same way people can bring us together to rejoice in their own light,

I believe in rejoicing with our dying star, whose burning entity heralds us to see one another.
